Transmutatio – process of integration in olfactory art

About the project

Transmutatio is a series of sculptural olfactory objects exploring transformation as both a material and psychological experience. My practice operates at the intersection of contemporary art, olfactory art, and collectible design, investigating the relationship between scent, memory, body, and consciousness.

The series is structured around five stages of the alchemical process — Nigredo, Albedo, Citrinitas, Rubedo, and Coniunctio — understood as universal experiential states.

Each object functions as an autonomous sensory situation..

Stages of transformation

Nigredo

Nigredo marks dissolution. Structures destabilize, revealing latent potential within chaos. The olfactory layer introduces tension — ambiguous and slightly unsettling.

Albedo

Albedo introduces purification and emergence. The scent becomes lighter, fresher, almost breath-like — suggesting regeneration.

Citrinitas

Energy becomes concentrated and directional. The scent intensifies, acting as a catalyst for focus and internal activation.

Rubedo

Rubedo represents culmination. The form exceeds its boundaries, revealing a new presence. The scent is dense, warm, and visceral.

Coniunctio – Altare Intimo

An intimate altar of integration — unity rather than duality.

Scent as artistic medium

In my practice, scent is not an addition to form.
It is an equal medium.

I create olfactory sculptures and sensory installations that activate perception through molecular presence rather than visual dominance.

Material and process

Materials such as porcelain, glass, brass, stone, and organic elements serve both sculptural and olfactory functions, allowing objects to evolve over time.

Context – olfactory art

Transmutatio contributes to the expanding field of olfactory art, positioning scent as a primary carrier of meaning within contemporary artistic practice.

Artistic practice

I create spaces where subtle yet profound transformation of perception can occur.
The works do not impose interpretation — they initiate experience.
